V. Instructions for Use
Excitation fluorescence
Wavelengths such as CSS, 365 nm, 415 nm, 450 nm, 490 nm, 505 nm, 530 nm, and 555 nm can excite visible fluorescence from physical evidence. By illuminating the physical evidence with these wavelengths and wearing filter glasses that match the illuminating light, one can observe the visible fluorescence emitted by the physical evidence.
In these wavelength bands, CSS exhibits the highest light intensity and the strongest ability to excite fluorescence. Wearing orange glasses and conducting a comprehensive search of the scene using CSS light can often reveal some fluorescent physical evidence. Both white light and CSS light are highly effective light sources for on-site searches.
